Altec Lansing has been in the electronics accessory game for over 70 years, giving them plenty of time to perfect their craft. Their latest products to hit the market are MP3 docking stations like the inMotion IMT320. With this docking station you can charge your iPod or iPhone and connect external devices like an MP3 player or smartphone on the go. The IMT320’s portable design is its standout feature – and the main reason we included the product in our top 10 lineup.
The inMotion IMT320 is designed with a wrap-around covering case that converts into an adjustable support stand for the docking station. This cover makes it simple and easy to transport the docking station, while still offering protection for the speakers. Pack it up and head to the beach, a party or on vacation without worrying about damaging the dock. For additional portability, the MP3 speakers can run solely on battery power. All it takes are four AA batteries (not included), and you can listen to your MP3 player for up to 24 hours without relying on an AC connection.
Any external device with a 3.5 mm input can connect to this speaker set’s auxiliary input jack located on the back of the dock. Once connected, you can adjust volume level settings with the onboard controls. If you have an iPod or iPhone, simply dock the device on one of the included adapters, and the IMT320 will start charging it. This portable docking station can charge an iPod or iPhone while it's running on battery power or plugged into an AC power outlet, and it will automatically pause any music when a call comes in on your iPhone. These two convenient and efficient features make life with an Apple product that much easier.
For such a small device, weighing 2.7 pounds, you might think the size meant limited sound quality. This is not the case with the IMT320. Two 2-inch drivers are sure to impress even the most wary audiophile. A deep bass delivered from the ported drivers will definitely surprise you. To adjust volume levels, you can access the controls on the top of the dock. All adjustments will have to be made manually as there is not an included remote control.
We contacted Altec Lansing via their email support page with specification questions, and after two weeks, we’re still waiting to hear from them. We even tried to contact them via their online chat feature and were flabbergasted to see times online chat is actually available: Monday - Tuesday: Closed; Wednesday: 08:30 a.m. - 09:00 a.m. EDT;
Thursday - Sunday: Closed. You read that correctly, they are available for online chat for a half hour on Wednesdays. To us, non-existent online customer support is unprofessional and unacceptable. While they do have a toll-free number, we are thoroughly unimpressed with Altec's customer service.
There is no question whether the inMotion IMT320 is a fantastic product and one of the best MP3 docking stations available today. The main qualm we have with the docking station is the inability for customers to conveniently and quickly receive help and support from Altec Lansing.
Pros
A soft covering case converts into an adjustable support stand for the dock.
Cons
Altec Lansing’s online technical support is practically non-existent.
This is the perfect portable docking station to take on the go.
